Adding a Snippet to a Topic
Snippets allow for the efficient reuse of content. Creating and inserting a snippet is analogous to copying and pasting information, allowing you to select a portion of content which you can easily insert elsewhere. However, creating a snippet saves the content as a snippet file within a folder so that it can be accessed again whenever needed, rather than requiring you to locate, copy, and paste the information each time. Snippets can be text, images, or any other type of content.
Creating a Snippet
- Open the topic containing the content you want to create a snippet from. Topics are located in the Content Explorer.
- Select the content you want to create a snippet from.
- Click the Home tab to open the Home ribbon.
- Click the Create Snippet icon on the right side of the ribbon. The Create Snippet window appears.
- Type a name for the snippet in the “Snippet File” field.
- Select a location to save the snippet to in the “Project Folder” field. Snippets are saved to the Snippets folder in the Resources folder in the Content Explorer by default.
- Review the content in the snippet in the “Snippet” field.
- Click the box next to “Replace Source Content with the New Snippet.” This replaces the content from which you generated the snippet with the snippet itself. This way, if you edit the snippet from the Snippets folder later, it will automatically update all instances of the snippet.
- Click Create. The snippet is inserted into the topic and added to the Snippets folder in the Content Explorer. If there is no Snippets folder in the Resources folder, Flare creates one.
Inserting a Snippet
- Open the topic into which you want to insert the snippet. Topics are located in the Content Explorer.

- Click theSnippet icon in the Single Source section of the Insert ribbon. The Insert Snippet Link window appears.
- Note: You can preview a snippet in the Preview section of the Insert Snippet Link window.
- Select the snippet you want to insert on the left side of the window.
